Douglas Fruge...

Douglas Fruge was born in Laurel, Maryland.

However he was raised in Ville Platte, Evangeline Parish, Louisiana, in the heart of Cajun Country. Having spent the growing years of his life there, his roots are deep in the food, culture, hospitality, and j'oi de vivre that is Louisiana. Since an early age, he enjoyed the many mediums in drawing, and practiced in his spare time. Some times, his drawings took up too much of his time. Intrigued by different scenery and places that he has travelled, be it the Charleston, South Carolina charm or that of the Kansas City, or the scenes of the desert and canyons, he yearned for something new. That something new brought him to Alaska, where he lived for nearly 14 years. However, Louisiana has always been 'home' and he bought a place on the water in Montegut, Louisiana, a small rural community southwest of New Orleans.

“It was an ideal location to take in scenery, fish, and was ideal for solitude that my paintings required. Though no matter where or what I'd see, my appreciation of historical architecture brought me to painting. Being close to New Orleans, especially the Garden District and quarter, provides me with the perfect settings of scenes I enjoy painting.”

His art centers on bright colors brings out the impression and vision that he sees in the object he paints.
