Athena and Her Owl
Original oil & Mixed Media on Board with
24 Carat Gold Leaf
36 x 24
SOLD
Athena is the Goddess of Wisdom, War (but only with purpose), Crafts and Philosophy. She is often accompanied by her sacred owl, and in this painting she is obviously in consultation with this bird of wisdom. Athena had a selection of impressive helmets, one pictured here, which we can see on ancient Greek statues from 3000 years ago. I am also working on several other pieces which are inspired by Athena.

Original Encaustic on Board
12 x 20 1/2
$2,250 framed
Encaustic is an ancient technique of painting with pigments mixed in wax. The technique dates to at least the second century BC in Egypt, but was also used in Rome, Greece, and other countries in the area. The word encaustic comes from the Greek word encaustikos, meaning "to burn in." This etymology can be used to distinguish encaustic painting from other uses of wax to create art. Encaustic refers specifically to the process of painting with wax in which the layers are fused together with heat, or burned in. This does not include other techniques such as drawing with crayon or using wax based painting mediums.

Dione
Original oil & Mixed Media on Board with 24 Carat Gold Leaf
32 x 26
SOLD
This beautiful sea nymph sits amongst the rocks and the waves with her collection of ocean treasures... She wears Abalone pearls, which are highly valuable and come in extraordinary shapes. Many come from California and are made into beautiful jewellery. The goblet on the rocks holding golden pearls is a Nautilus shell, mounted on a golden hippocamp (seahorse) ridden by a mermaid, with a coral twig for balance and finished with golden dolphin on top of the shell. I have sculpted and painted this. These Nautilus shells which have been delicately carved and combined into elegant sculptures or goblets can be found in museums and private collections and can be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. I have designed my own goblet for this painting. Also on the rocks is a collection of shells, the one with the string of pearls in it is an Apple Murex and only found in the Bay of Mexico. I have also included a pearl oyster with a little collection of pearls inside.
