John
James Audubon - “Centennial Edition”
The “Centennial Edition” of John James Audubon’s
Double Elephant Folio is created in tribute to the 100-year celebration
of The National Audubon Society. We are sure Mr. Audubon joins
us in spirit as we honor his legacy and the wonderful non-profit
organization so fittingly named and committed to its mission in
conservation and restoration of our precious ecosystems.
John James Audubon’s ambition and career has been hailed
genius and is exemplified in his artistic creativity and historical
consequence of capturing the reality of our nation’s wildlife
in the early 19th century. The significance of his life’s
accomplishments has given us one of our most revered national
heirlooms. The “Centennial Edition” achieves this
importance as a new generation in being a genuine art connoisseur’s
possession.
The “Centennial Edition” is only the third comprehensive
collection produced in 178 years since Audubon himself created
the original, “Birds of America.” Of notable significance
is that the “Centennial Edition” is the first edition
to be meticulously restored embracing the detail and brilliance
emerging as when they were first revealed to art patrons in 1827.
The “Centennial Edition” is created with extraordinary
care to every vital characteristic of the original masterpiece’s
coloration, image and paper size. More importantly, the new edition
is entirely conceived with archival processes and materials to
meet the most stringent requirements and carry a lifetime guarantee,
unlike the originals. This is a formidable quality to be valued,
affording not only years of viewing enjoyment, but prospective
appreciation.
The “Centennial Edition” is published under the auspices
of The National Audubon Society with each image bearing their
stately embossed logo thus bestowing a contribution to their admirable
cause. Subscribers to the “Centennial Edition” can
be assured these assets bring forth a realistic collectable prominence
and definitive quality of art. The “Centennial Edition”
is strictly limited to only two hundred of each image worldwide.
The “Centennial Edition” like the original, “The
Birds of America,” Double Elephant Folio is comprised of
all 435 images painted by Audubon. The 435 images depict 1,065
birds and each rendering of each species is painted life-size,
an extraordinary reality. Of the 435 images there are three distinctive
plate sizes referred to as a full plate, a half plate and a quarter
plate. Each plate size in the Folio is limited in quantity to
87, 87, and 261 respectively. Each image bears a plate number
in the upper right hand corner. The plate numbers in the “Centennial
Edition” are the same as in the “The Birds of America.”
It is our practice to interchange the word image for plate thus,
this will follow suit as we continue. Consequently, you can reference
our image number in any collector’s guide, or authoritative
chronicle and identify the same image as in “The Birds of
America.”
Subscribers will receive with each image, a Certificate of Authenticity,
John James Audubon Biography, a copy of the original Ornithology
of the particular bird species as written by Audubon, and a guide
on “Caring for Your Fine Art.” In addition, the limited
edition images will be cosseted in an archival sleeve.
The John James Audubon “Centennial Edition” is an
extraordinary accomplishment in today’s art world that is
destined to become a renowned and significantly respected masterpiece
for future generations.
