It is with sadness that we bid farewell to a very dear friend and talented artist, Mr. John Akers, who passed away in the fall of 2006.
John was a self-taught, award-winning, internationally-acclaimed artist residing in Covington, Louisiana. His beautiful paintings, watercolors, and etchings have been a favorite of collectors world-wide. Professionally affiliated with the New Orleans Audubon Zoo, the Coral Reef Keepers Association and the Country of Belize, John’s detailed research, skill and patience made his work one-of-a-kind.
We will miss John’s talent, his gracious personality and the light and beauty his works cast upon our home of Louisiana.
"I could paint 150 years and never run out
of ideas." - John Akers
Because John was self-taught, his acrylic painting, watercolor, and copperplate
etchings are instantly recognizable, regardless of where they are
displayed. His realistic style requires tremendous research, skill
and patience. Akers works are collected nationally and internationally.
